Children and lying
In order for children the must first understand that what they are saying is false.therefore children are not able to lie until anout the age of three or four when they can understand the reason for it. some very young children dont even realize they are lying . they tell a mixture of reality and add there own twist on it to either make it sound better or worse. as children continue to develop and grow these fibs will go away. after this stage children move into the next stage in which they lie to test adults or peers.
So who's to blame?
kids learn by modeling the behavior they see around them. So it is all up to the parents to be polite and courteous around their children therefore they will mimic them.so it should be no surprise that children pick up to the worst and best traits of there parents.
Lying in your child may indicate emotional problems...
For example, an adolescent with a serious drug or alcohol problem will lie repeatedly to hide the truth about where they have been, who they were with, what they were doing, and where the money went. keep an eye on on children as they grow.
Psychological theroies on why?
It doesn't make sense to punish toddlers for truth bending, since they don't get that what they're doing is wrong. "If a two-year-old pulls the cat's tail and says that her imaginary friend did it, the best response is to say, 'The cat has feelings, too,' " says Elizabeth Berger, M.D.
When your child is still lying at the age of 18 or so you should be concerned.
